Mass Academy juniors were invited to present at the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium
A group of Mass Academy students were invited to present at the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium on March 2nd, 2023. The Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS), hosted by the University of New Hampshire, is a STEM competition for high schoolers where students compete in poster presentation and oral presentation.
“It was a really neat experience for high schoolers that we wouldn’t get the opportunity to do otherwise,” said junior Kyle Klamka.
Mass Academy students were able to see other students’ projects from all over the Southern New England area.
Junior Rianna Santra “was especially interested in seeing all the projects” when she attended the symposium.
Travis Tran noted that “there were a lot of machine learning projects” and that for him “the best academic experience” he had while attending the conference was “talking to other students from other schools about their projects.”
Upon completing the competition, Mass Academy students ate dinner with their peers before the start of the awards ceremony. Several Mass Academy students were recognized with awards.
Rianna Santra placed 1st in the oral competition, Anshika Shekhar placed 3rd in the oral competition, and Omar El Nesr placed 5th in the oral competition. Joseph Yu placed 1st in the poster competition and Mass Academy STEM teacher Dr. Kevin Crowthers won the Teachers award.
The Junior Science and Humanities Symposium was an exciting way for Mass Academy students to engage with other students across the state and present their research.
