Director for Community Partnerships & Educational Equity strengthens work of the STEM Education Center at WPI
Noemi Robertson joined the STEM Education Center as the Director for Community Partnerships & Educational Equity in October 2022. She will be working with other WPI offices as well as the Worcester community.
Noemi will be responsible for building and managing relationships in the local community to support teaching experiences for the WPI Teacher Preparation Program and for equitable PreK-12 STEM learning opportunities. She will promote and support PreK-16 teachers in developing equitable and inclusive STEM curriculum and instructional practices.
Director of Community Relations at WPI, Katie Bilotta, is excited to work with Noemi. “The Worcester community is always looking to WPI for inspiration and educational content, specifically around STEM. Noemi’s success and diverse experience in education will allow WPI to bring more STEM curriculum to the community outside the walls of WPI to ensure a stronger local pipeline in the STEM fields.”
Noemi is proud to come from a family of hardworking Mexican immigrant parents and grew up in a Spanish-speaking household. She is a first-generation college graduate and obtained her Bachelor of Business Administration from Stetson University, Florida. In addition, Noemi earned her M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Management from Fitchburg State University.
For the past 15 years, Noemi has served as an Educational Leader at Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School. She led and coordinated all aspects of their Title I program, the English Language Learners program, family engagement programs, state and local assessments, and summer school. Due to the increased English Language Learners and Title I populations and significant proficiency gaps, Noemi collaborated with school leaders and teachers on data review, critical policy, and procedural changes. She also volunteered with the Fitchburg Youth Today Leadership Program to increase academic success and improve student-teacher relations and community engagement.
Additionally, Noemi will manage the Worcester area ASPIRE-RC program for building capacity for inclusive and diverse STEM faculty at community colleges. Worcester area graduate students and postdocs will receive trainings and mentored teaching experiences at Quinsigamond Community College. Rory Flinn, Assistant Dean of Graduate Studies, shares that “Noemi’s experience in supporting educational partnerships across schools will be invaluable in managing the Central MA ASPIRE regional collaborative and facilitating a tremendous experience for our ASPIRE Teaching Fellows.”
In Noemi’s new role at WPI, she will also be supporting the Mass Academy of Math & Sciences. According to Anne Ludes, Director of Mass Academy, “Noemi brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from her previous roles that will help WPI and Mass Academy strengthen existing partnerships and build new ones. Her deep understanding of K-12 education will ensure our work with schools, community-based organizations, and out-of-school programs are focused on addressing the needs of students and teachers through an equity lens. We are thrilled to have her join the WPI community!”
