Student government organizes Pizza Fridays
One treat Mass Academy students look forward to every week is Pizza Friday, a tradition that has been occurring at the school for over a decade. Student government members sell pizza in the mornings when students come into school and hand it out during lunch, providing a nice change of pace and giving the student kitchen microwaves a break for once.
Every Thursday, someone from the student government sends out an email about the following day’s pizza, but no two emails are the same. The email-writer always takes the time to fill the message with creative pizza-themed puns and often incorporates the current events at MAMS. Some notable examples are “Get a pizza this action!” and “It’s really the yeast we could do.”
The puns are enjoyed by many students.
“Everybody kneads these pizza puns in their olives. They always spice up my week, and I absolutely adoughre them,” said junior Omar El Nesr. “The puns student government slice up always add so much flavor, and there’s still mush-room for improvement.”
However, not all students are a fan of the pun-riddled Pizza Friday announcements.
“Every time I read a pun it was like a slice got cut out,” said junior Nevin Thinagar. “So, I decided to give them a pizza my mind. I have been in contact with student government in hopes that the puns will one day cheese. I have utmost crust that they will make the right decision.”
Many students take part in this weekly tradition. One reliable pizza customer is junior Joshua Schnee.
“It’s nice to not have to worry about lunch one day a week,” said Schnee.
Student Government members enjoy organizing the lunches.
“The biggest reason we do Pizza Friday is because it’s an easier fundraiser to do, it is consistent, we can do it right at MAMS, and there’s the added perk of pizza for the grade!” said student government co-president and junior Ashwina Bangari.
Her opinion on the puns included in student government emails is clear. “I personally love the puns. Some might say they’re a bit cheesy, but I think it allows us to make the emails a little more personal and really share our personalities,” said Bangari.
All in all, Pizza Fridays are a beloved MAMS tradition that will hopefully continue for many years to come.
