Mass Academy welcomes Massachusetts legislators to learn more about the program.
On January 31st, Mass Academy welcomed state representatives, senators, and legislative staffers into the school for a Legislative Breakfast. Sponsored by Senator Michael O. Moore and hosted by Mass Academy, legislators were offered a look into what Mass Academy is all about.
The day began with mingling between the legislators and Mass Academy students. Students performed musical pieces while others discussed their time at Mass Academy with the legislators.
Arne Gericke, the Dean of Undergraduate Admissions at WPI and overseer of Mass Academy gave a speech emphasizing the significance of the program. Then, Ms. Anne Ludes, the Director of Mass Academy, spoke about the program and outreach at Mass Academy.
Due to the nature of being a state-funded public school, legislators vote on the Mass Academy budget every year. The legislators who attended the legislative breakfast were given an inside look into why the school matters. Students and faculty here hope these legislators are able to share with their colleagues the importance of Mass Academy in upcoming decisions pertaining to the school.
Upon reflection, the Legislative Breakfast was a huge success.
Ms. Julie Theriault, the school operations manager, said it was “well received because we keep getting calls from state representatives.”
All of the students are excited to host a similar event in the future, as they enjoyed the opportunity to meet their legislators and share the importance of Mass Academy.
